Welcome to Year 6!
Happy New Year and a warm welcome back!
We have a busy half term ahead as we begin our new themes.
Our whole school theme this half term is 'Lets Go Wild!' within that Year 6 will be focusing on Antarctica. From this, within English the children will be exploring and writing their own versions of Shackleton's Journey.
In our Maths sessions we will be looking at fractions, including adding and subtracting fractions as well as finding fractions of amounts and wholes. We will also be working hard at practising our formal written methods in multiplication, division, subtraction and addition.
The children are always improving with their times table knowledge so support with this at home is greatly appreciated.
During our theme, we will be enriching our geographical knowledge of Antarctica by researching the climate, animals and how they have adapted, food chains and Shackleton's Journey. In our Science lessons we will be conducting an experiment thinking about how we can stop ice from melting and how we can keep water frozen.
This term we will be spending time preparing for SATs. It would be helpful if you could make sure your child always completes their homework. They will have Math, Spelling and Grammar or Reading homework sent home on a Thursday to be returned the following Wednesday, along with their termly creative homework,
There are websites that can help with revision at home, these include:
There are also lots of exciting events that will be happening over the half term, please check your child's newsletter for key dates and up-coming events.
Thank you for your continuing support,
Miss Peacock and Mrs Okon.
