Welcome to Year 3!
Welcome to Year 3! We hope you had a fantastic summer and have enjoyed the first weeks back at school. We have lots of exciting things to learn this half term! We have begun our new key text – Booom! By Alan Macdonald which links with our topic on The Stone Age. The children will be using text interrogation and power of reading strategies to plan and write their own creative version of the story.
In Maths we are beginning the year by focussing on place value, looking at numbers up to 1,000 and using various concrete methods to explore different ways to represent numbers. We will go on to look at 10/100 more or less and partitioning 3 digit numbers. Our challenge question linking to our topic asks the children to help a Stone Age tribe called the Urk’s to find out about numbers.
Our topic of The Stone Age links to our whole school theme of ‘Buried Treasure’. We will be becoming historians – asking historical questions about what it was like to live in the time of the Stone Age. The children have been on a Stone Age themed treasure hunt, discovering how archaeologists found clues and artefacts that helped them to piece together information about the past. We will be learning about Stonehenge in Geography lessons, discussing why sites such as this have impact on our lives today. In Art and DT we will be creating our own cave paintings and Stone Age dwellings.
We are looking forward to an amazing year in Year 3!
