At Godley Community Primary Academy we provide the children with a rich and broad curriculum where all pupils can learn and achieve.

The children at Godley are highly engaged with our thematic and creative approach to the curriculum. Each year we keep a fresh and current curriculum which stems from the children's interests. Children have enjoyed 'Footprints from the Past', 'Heroes and Villians', 'Out of this World' and 'Go with the Flow'. We are passionate about reading, high quality texts and children's books drive our all of our themes. We always begin with an exciting WOW moment where the children develop their love of reading through drama, role play and individual expression.

We believe our children's learning is enriched by visits, visitors and special events throughout the year. Some of these events include our annual Arts Week, Healthy Week and Science Week where we have special visitors, including ex-pupils, to share experiences and inspire the children.

Independence and ownership are fundamental to 'Building Better Learners' at Godley. Our daily lessons encourage our children to take risks and become curious and reflective life-long learners. This is embeddded across school through our key learning behaviours, which include perseverance, collaboration, questioning, reasoning, revising and making links between ideas. Teachers take pride in ensuring that all children are challenged and achieve their full potential. Daily assessment for learning techniques such as observation, self and peer assessment, and scrutiny of work, enables the teachers to provide personalised provision for the children and make timely interventions so all children make good progress. Summative assessment (formal assessments and tests) are also used to support teachers professional decisions on academic attainment and age related expectation (ARE).

At Godley we are passionate about the Arts and it is at the core of everything we achieve. In celebration of the Arts we have an 'Arts Week' every year, where our learning is driven through a whole school theme which encompasses Dance, Drama, Visual Art and Music. We all look forward to this time of the year and we love seeing the children's enthusiasm for the exciting events we have planned. These have included a giant planetarium, vintage cars, fashion shows, real life donkeys and a whole school balloon release! We continue to develop these events through pupil voice and feedback.

At Godley we are a healthy school and we believe that children should be educated on how to stay safe and healthy inside and outside of school. This is embedded into our curriculum and school life throughout the year as well as during our 'Healthy Week' where we encourage children, parents, families and friends to join 'Freddy Fit' for a fitness work out. The children love healthy week and it really motivates them to keep a healthy lifestyle.

Home learning experiences are essential in connection with school life. They give the children the opportunity to apply and embed what they have learnt in school. Providing homework helps children to develop the skills and attitudes they will need for successful lifelong learning. Homework also supports the development of independent learning skills and provides parents with an opportunity to understand and take part in their child’s education. English and Maths skills burst homework are sent out each week to children throughout school plus a thematic project for the children to complete at home.
